Life Updates | Catchup

I got my cup of tea and I’m ready to animate for the next couple hours! My day got split between research and job applications instead of what I wanted to achieve, animation. So a late night begins! I’ve got two more days to animate and sound design, but realistically only one full day. Tomorrow we have company so I don’t anticipate work after 1 pm. Therefore the bulk of animation gets to happen tonight and Thursday.

I haven’t done a life update in awhile, despite posting every night. These last couple weeks have just been crazy in my mind. Last week was more toned down but had a lot of follow up emailing as well as work. I spent a lot of time trying to get my bearings back after the intense networking week prior. Denver Startup Week tired me out! I also followed along the Adobe Youtube Live Sessions on Motion Design. They had amazing artists and I learned so much during those three days! Glad I got a chance to catch the sessions!

Monday, September 12, 2016, started with an early morning commute to Denver for a panel. The topic was Artist as an Entrepreneur. The three people there were very knowledgeable and had very interesting perspectives on presenting yourself as a business. I learned a ton. It was also great because space was small so I was able to meet two of the panelists. Following that, I ended up being an adult and going home to work.

Tuesday I had a lunch meeting with a client. That went well. That evening was a concert at the huge Pepsi Center. All American Rejects! Also, Blink182 and A Day to Remember. More importantly, Mike Kennerty liked my tweet. It should be known that I am a massive AAR fan. A great, fun concert, but tiring.

The following morning I did work. Then went down for Startup Week Denver. I went on a pedal-hopper tour which was interesting. We went to three different startups in a growing area of Denver. Made some new friends and then went to the Startup Week Career Fair. That was the biggest fair I’ve ever gone to. Three giant floors.

Thursday I commuted down in the middle of the week for, yet another, career fair. Then went straight home to work on my title sequence animation. This is when I discovered that they had extended the deadline. Celebrated with sleep.

Friday morning was Creative Mornings Denver. After that, I hung around for a couple hours waiting for my mother. Ended up at a parking meter photo shoot. It was Parking Day which is meant to represent taking back parking spaces. People set up a photo booth in a couple parking spaces. Lunch with mom and then home to relax for a bit. Then in the evening I went to Boulder Filmmaking Incubators for, more networking. It ended up being less networking and more critique group. Honestly, I was a little disappointed because the meetup group description made it sound more like a networking event. It was interesting watching the independent films, but I wish it had been more transparent about what the meetup actually was. It was a great and interesting critique session, but definitely not a networking event. The films screened were amazing and I learned quite a bit about the film process. If I end up at another one I’m interested in seeing progress on films shown and their process.

That concludes the crazy Denver Startup Week. This week has been hectic with job apps and emails. Hustling at all the projects. And now gotta get to that animation before I shower and sleep. Gonna be crazy tomorrow.

Night,
Kendall

Eyebrows

I spent today hanging out on the Adobe Live stream. It reminded me that I haven’t actually worked in After Effects in awhile…especially when I tried to use shape layers. I at least created Evan Abram‘s eyebrows. I’ve concluded that working in Illustrator is more efficient for my workflow.

Still working on that title sequence. I didn’t really get a chance to get into it today. I opted for watching the live stream and learning techniques from the awesome people there. Learned tons and hope that they do another one.

Plans are get some animation done tomorrow and write a life update. I haven’t done one of those in a long while. Plus I never typed up a recap of Denver Startup Week events. Just feeling a little unfocused this week. I’ll have to get myself back on track tomorrow. Hope everyone has a fabulous Friday!

Baseball and Animation Inspiration 76

I feel gross after sitting in hot HOT sun for 5 hours at the Rockies vs Cubs game today. Was kind of fun…except for frying like an egg in a pan. I seriously have new tan marks just from today’s exposure. I’m pretty sure my makeup is the wrong tone now. Yay sun. So much sweat. I am a little bummed that the Cubs lost… Still a fun outing hanging out with the fam, but bummed.

The hot sun evaporated most of my energy today, thus, I didn’t make any headway on projects. Plans are a good night’s sleep and early morning exercise so I can get all the stuff I need to get done, done. To make this blog post not boring inspiration time!

Bearband | By August Håkansson

Why is this not a website? I want this to be interactive so the bears can play with each instrument and be controlled by various clicks. If not a web based interface, at least a kid’s computer game. It’s very bright and colorful with fun animations. Really wanted to interact with the piece!

I Like to Play | By Josep Bernaus

Great exercise that plays with different elements to make a dynamic and engaging piece. I love watching the interaction with all the exercises. Really fun idea and great way to add personality to inanimate objects. Perfect idea to use for practice.

Updates & Animation Inspiration 71

I forgot to devote Monday’s blog to life updates, so instead I’ll do it tonight.

Here is a link to the gallery of the rest of the photos from the Ogallala, NE trip. I am currently working on a rough cut of the video. I really need a tripod. I have so much stablizing to do to these clips. I estimate I’ll finish the video by next week at this rate. I want to devote time to the edits, but not take away from the other projects I have to work on.

Doing some planning for the project I mentioned last week. I underestimated the amount time I needed just to plan out the idea, let alone the actual production, so I’m going to put that one on the back burner until I get my process down. I hope to make it a weekly or biweekly project. I’m too far behind to launch it this week, so, cross fingers I find enough time to finish it for next Tuesday. I feel bad pushing it another week, but I spent the weekend enjoying the family camping trip.

I am going back through my selfi animation. It got held up do to the chaos of my brain. I started doubting the script, the sketches, and ideas I had. Today I looked through a few sketches I had and I’m not sure why. One of those moments where I had to take a break from it to get a good perspective. Tip: If you find yourself doubting your work try taking a step back. Just take a long break and come back with a fresh head. Especially if you’re working on the project solo, like I am. I have yet to get someone to critique my project, and my inner perfectionist just keeps telling me to remake it and start anew. No need to start over just gotta get past that dip! Also if anyone wants to help with critiques at a later date tweet me @zonaefly. I’m gonna need feedback soon.

Since this post is very text heavy I will end with a little Animation Inspiration. Feels like it’s been awhile since I’ve posted one.

Doodle for Google – Share Your Imagination | By Google

Really cute animation with lots of different styles and animations. The pacing is fun and very bouncy. I tried to convince my school to do Doodle for Google, but couldn’t get my teacher to sign off on it. Too bad would have been really fun to enter. I know I always look forward to the Google Doodles. The creativity of the kids makes watching this video a lot of fun. Great sound design too. Hope it inspires you!

Geeking out and a Syd Weiler Immitation

If none of this makes sense sorry. I’ve tried really hard to type out things coherently explaining stuff, but I’m tired and words don’t seem to be working too well. I’m actually at that point were I’m starting to wonder if there’s a ghost in my room again and I keep freaking out at all the little noises. I need to go to bed.

Basically, all you need to know right now is I’m imitating Syd Weiler’s style. She’s a really talented illustrator who is currently an Adobe Creative Resident. I’ve been geeking out over the talented individuals of the residency recently and after watching her work on the Adobe Twitch channel I got all inspired. I haven’t really seen her sketch from start to finish so I kind of just mimicked it from memory. She draws these amazing logs and stumps which are beautiful to look at. I’m excited to see the project she’s working on during her Residency. I def recommend checking out her other stuff as well as looking at other residents’ work. I promise to elaborate on their stuff tomorrow. I’m just really tired right now and I def need to get some sleep. Once again check out her work and take some time to appreciate her beautiful illustration skills!

Booktube-A-Thon | Challenge Day 3 | Book Title Slip In

So this is the culmination of just having fun creating something different. I learned a bit more on how to use Audition, although I really don’t have an ear for this kind of stuff so I can’t really say I know how to use it well…but the point is that I learned something new. I also was reminded of how much I love photomanipulations. Been awhile since I’ve done that. All in all good creative day. Have a few more things to work on before bed tonight, but for now celebrating the wins of my day!

Question for you! What did you do today that you’re proud of?

I’m proud of finishing this Challenge Video and still having extra time in the day!
