Animation Inspiration 110

I feel like it’s been ages since I threw up some inspiration on this blog. Been prioritizing other projects that are of a larger scope and letting my Friday posts slide a bit. I’ll work on posting more inspirational posts in the future.

YIN teaser | by Nicolas Fong | Tumblr: those-visions-have-no-end

Loving the textures, cel animation, and optical illusional style of this teaser. I’m excited to watch the full short. Keeping an eye out for this!

A is for Albert | By Studio Lovelock | studiolovelock.com

Love this alphabetical adventure following a feisty child named Albert. He really loves to help out, fix things, negotiate, and party. Enjoying that every letter has its own story featuring him. Great animation and very fun to watch!

You can also view these animations on Aisforalbert.com

Looking forward to the weekend! Hope everyone else is too and excited for my Monday post. Make sure to check back then because it’s a special Valentine edition!

Animation Inspiration 107

Lots to do tomorrow so heading to bed early. Here are some very cool animations to keep you inspired!

A True Story – Carly | By Guille Comin

Love the message for this and the illustration style that supports the narration. I love seeing these because they inspire me to create things, nerdy things specifically!

Disney X D – Gravity Falls ID | By Golden Wolf

Been following Golden Wolf’s Instagram and getting inspired by their animation transitions and 2D style. Love the focus this piece has and transitions of each character’s heads. The simple pattern design in the background is a really great way to make the whole piece work together. Will continue watching more Golden Wolf animations!

Animation Inspiration 105

One of those thinking days today. Got lots to do Monday so here’s some inspiration to get motivate everyone!

Traveling Lights | By we think things

A beautiful piece using negative space and shape layers to create simple moments. Love the designs and reminds me to be mindful of the compositions I create.

Empty Storage 01 | By Peter Steineck

Loving the throwback of pixelization and design style of games. The character is silly and the old style to it is a great fit.

Dino Updates & Planets

Imamakeathing. Worked on a class for Skillshare today. I decided to make a class on how to create a planet in photoshop. More updates on that later since will have to film and edit the short video classes together. You can see a quick example of what I’m aiming for below. Just a very simple class to learn basics of photoshop blend modes, brushes, masks, and filters.

I originally had the plan to do some lettering, but I didn’t feel comfortable teaching it because most lettering skills I’ve learned come from Skillshare. No need to over saturate the market when I can direct people to the classes I learned from. Plus, I feel this style is underrated and super easy to teach. I have a lot of photoshop knowledge so I want to teach what I know and understand. I’ve been using photoshop since my middle school days so it’ll be nice to teach some of the methods I’ve learned.

On another note, I have a silly animated dinosaur which I’m still debating is the right type of animation for the application I’m applying for. I don’t want to push the project longer than tomorrow so just whipping up quick animations styles. I love the tribal look but am iffy on the ‘rawr’ part. I don’t think I have enough time to test walk cycles out, but it’d be a fun challenge for the future. Colors still being picked and still deciding how to accurately put into the application without disrupting the flow. It’s relevant but I have to make sure the hierarchy is the right balance of animation skills and good responses for questions.

Excited for what tomorrow brings! I have to get some overdue lettering done for a friend, some reading, get the rebrand finalized, and finish a job application…all while still hanging with the fam. If it gets too hectic the reading might get thrown to the last moment. Hope not, I have a ton of library books I want to finish before they get returned! Night friends! Hope your days are productive!

Animation Inspiration 103

Spent all day working on a project with a friend. Got back from that and took a nap…basically accomplished no personal projects. -sigh- I think tomorrow will have to be a day of working in coffee shops or something. Working at home is starting to get distracting.

Whitechapel Gallery – Mary Heilmann – Summer Exhibition Teaser | By Emmanuelle Walker

Loving the textures in this piece. Interesting incorporation of movement for the exhibition.

Zubroffka 2016 | By Kijek / Adamski

Shiny lights are shiny. I’m mesmerized by the movement of the lighting in this piece. Great geometric designs.

Why Brain, Why?

I woke up and drew a fantastic creation today. I am not sure why I thought it was going to be relevant for a rebranding. I’m really miffed at my morning idea. I remember looking at an amazing animation and being really excited to create something. Pulled out the Cintiq and opened Photoshop. And then drew a cat. Specifically my family cat, Zorro. Spent several hours refining the illustration and style that related to a motion graphic I have no script or plot for or idea for that matter, but I know it was meant for animating. I specifically used my own brand colors, including new ones I added as a part of the rebranding, and just went all in creating.

Somewhere around 3pm, I realized I don’t know why the drawing of the cat is relevant to ANYTHING. It’s not going into an animation, it’s not work related, it’s not a gift, nor is it supposedly for my website. But now I have an illustration of my cat. I really don’t know why I drew him. My brain decided it was a good idea at some point between 9 am and 10 am because I drew several ideations of him from 10am to 3pm. I am genuinely confused about why I did this and have spent the last few hours trying to find the connecting thought. How did I go from awesome mograph to website rebrand to drawing my cat?

From the general blasphemy of my mind, I present you with screenshots of what I created today. I’ll see if I can find a way to bring into my rebrand.

Here’s what I’ve decided on my Startup Weekend post. It’s going to go up Monday with all the finalized graphics and lessons learned. If it is not up please shame me until it is.

This week has been nonstop bad habits. I don’t know why, but procrastination at every turn along with distractions and oversleeping. I’m going to bed early and setting a loud alarm. I’m hoping that it’s a sleeping situation. I’ve been going to bed at 2 AM or later that past week. When my sleep schedule gets messed up the rest of the day gets a bit out of sync. So bed time and more exercise.

Sharing inspiration so I can get to sleep before 1 AM or at least sit in bed playing Lisa Eldrige videos until her ASMR voice puts me to sleep.

This is Motion Graphics! | By Kevin

Great piece demonstrating the concept of motion graphics. It’s well illustrated and explains a lot. Will be keeping in my back pocket to show anyone that gets confused by what I do.

18.01 Piano Waves | By Simon F A Russell

I half expected a fight between animals on each side. Beautiful design and movement. I wish there were more components to it like a color change or the shapes created stories eventually. Beautiful piece!

Animation Inspiration 99

‘Allo fam. Was hoping to have my Startup Weekend stuff done today, but I’m still finishing up a lettering post for it. Started it a little late in the day, but if I concentrate and focus all day tomorrow it’ll be up as well as have progress on other projects. Just need to put up blockers of social media and I’ll be fine.

Here’s inspiration again…I really need get more work done.

Preposterous – A Short About Absurdity | By Florent Porta

Love this piece! It’s one of the reasons I love animation. Changing the rules of the world. Absurd moments that can only be created through animation.

SILENCE (extrait) | By Emma Carré

Excellent piece with some interesting sound design. It’s got a good narrative and design. I admire the edits and movement of items like the car as well as character. The illustrations are great with fun line work. Makes me want to edit some of the ideas I had early on this year.

Animation Inspiration 98

A full blog on my Startup Weekend 2016 will be up soon. Today was a relax day. Just took some time to process what happened during the week and set goals for tomorrow and this week.

Here are a couple inspiration videos since I’m working on the blog for tomorrow.

Feelings. [Super Deluxe] | By Alex Grigg

Ha! This animation makes me laugh. The sound design is a key component to the expression of this video.

A True Story – Andrea | By Edgar Ferrer

Give me a moment to drool over the illustrative design. I’m in love with the shapes and the parallax movement. Great design and narration. I’m gonna have to find out how they made the shapes feel 3D but in a 2D space.
