More Vectors | Title Sequence Process

Why is furniture shopping so tiring? I spent half my day at IKEA…I’m tired. But getting closer to finished with those vectors. I’m slowly becoming a morning person so I’ll do my best to wake up early to finish the vectoring tomorrow. It’d be nice if I can start animating before midnight tomorrow…I might shorten the animation due to time constraints…Or like I said yesterday, abandon sleep.

Vector Till You Fall Asleep

Still got loads to do, but progress is progress. I went back to the drawing board. Really tried to figure out what all the squares will look like before vectoring. I tried to draw something for every single square. The lack of a solid plan was hindering me. Not to self do not generally label, be specific. I’m still working out where each square will goes, but there are specific aspects I want to correlate. Example clicking the ‘bold’ button will bold the text at the same time. Similar to the arrow being shot and hitting the heart in the original. Since the grid is modular I’ll be easy to switch them around once I’ve finished vectoring.

I plan to stay up a bit later tonight to finish at least one or two more boards. Animation is going to crazy, not to mention it’ll take a least a day to prep everything. Cross fingers I finish on time. I might have bitten off more than I can chew…might have to pull an all nighter or two. Unless someone wants to help out animation wise? I might just have to cancel some Denver Startup Week plans. We’ll see if I’m on track tomorrow.

Art Updates | Concepting

I obviously still have a ton of work to do for the concepting stage of the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) title credits, but I did start some illustrator sketches for the Man Seeking Woman style. You can see a few early concepts I have. I’m a little frustrated that I haven’t been able to get myself to work on these more. It’s not that I’m not excited, but I’ve been a bit out of sync working wise. I spent most of today cleaning my room since it’s been gathering cobwebs and dust.

You know what I think it is? I think it’s the fact that I haven’t properly exercised in a week. I’ve been slacking. Will have to remedy that tomorrow and see if it helps.

Lettering update, I will be posting that to IG and twitter tomorrow. Maybe an early post here just so that you guys can see. I spent today outlining and sketching the letterforms again. Still tweaking, but will have it up on the social media soon!

I got distracted and worked on this piece while watching the Adobe Twitch channel. They were working on Fantasy Environments so I sketched this. A bit off topic from my original art projects, but better than no art at all!

Animation Inspiration 77 | Google Doodle

I saw the lovely Google Doodle this evening and want to share it with you, that is if you haven’t seen it already!

I love looking up who creates the doodles and all of the other artwork they make. The two main ladies for this one are Sophie Diao and Lydia Nichols. There are of course others that worked on it which you can find here. You can also read a bit about the process at that link. I love the animated GIF they have there showing how the patches were created.

I recommend looking at Sophie Diao’s website to see some of the other doodles she’s created and her fun illustration style.

I also love Lydia Nichols’ illustrations and doodles which you can view on her site:

I’m sure everyone checks out the doodles, but don’t forget to look at others from different countries! There’s so many that you can’t see on the homepage because the doodles are targeted. Take a bit of time to scroll through the Doodle site to see all of Google’s Doodles!

Also check out Google 4 Doodle, a contest for kids to enter their own doodles. It’s really fun to see what kids create. It’s fantastic that Google features their artistic abilities. I shared an Animation Inspiration featuring the Google 4 Doodle video a couple weeks ago, you can check that out here. If you know a kid K-12 that likes to draw try to get them to join in on the fun! Even if they don’t enter the Google 4 Doodle contest at least they’ll have fun drawing.

Hope everyone has a great night!

Baseball and Animation Inspiration 76

I feel gross after sitting in hot HOT sun for 5 hours at the Rockies vs Cubs game today. Was kind of fun…except for frying like an egg in a pan. I seriously have new tan marks just from today’s exposure. I’m pretty sure my makeup is the wrong tone now. Yay sun. So much sweat. I am a little bummed that the Cubs lost… Still a fun outing hanging out with the fam, but bummed.

The hot sun evaporated most of my energy today, thus, I didn’t make any headway on projects. Plans are a good night’s sleep and early morning exercise so I can get all the stuff I need to get done, done. To make this blog post not boring inspiration time!

Bearband | By August Håkansson

Why is this not a website? I want this to be interactive so the bears can play with each instrument and be controlled by various clicks. If not a web based interface, at least a kid’s computer game. It’s very bright and colorful with fun animations. Really wanted to interact with the piece!

I Like to Play | By Josep Bernaus

Great exercise that plays with different elements to make a dynamic and engaging piece. I love watching the interaction with all the exercises. Really fun idea and great way to add personality to inanimate objects. Perfect idea to use for practice.

BookTube-A-Thon Title Sequence WIP

Working on my title sequences for my BookTube-A-Thon TBR. I was aiming to enter the giveaway for a box of books, but I realized that I didn’t have enough time to finish. So here’s the process of the lettering so far. I’m in the middle of the vectoring and have to still animate it a bit. Not to mention edit all the video I filmed today. Planning on doing some more takes tomorrow. I don’t know if I said this before, but I’m using this as a test run for my Selfi Animation, also, it’s been fun diving into more lettering.

I have a lot to do tomorrow so hoping that I can finish this up and get it done by the end of tomorrow so I don’t have to worry about it. I’m trying to get ahead this week so that I can allot more time to reading next week.

The Selfi Mograph

I’ve taken to referring to this as my selfi mograph… Yup, I’ve reached the point that I’m leaving the ‘e’ off. I forgot to type it and then decided it looked cooler. I feel so conceited, but still going to do it.

Portrait wise I finally found a style I liked and now I just have to decide on the color combo. I can’t decide which I like best yet. Anyway, I’m moving on from this and working on the next part of the styleframes. I hope to start animating by Wednesday or Thursday next week. There’s a lot of parts to this animation I want to take my time on. Really trying to make the best project I possibly can. I’m also piling on another project for Father’s day and will be updating that as well. And can’t forget that Character Animation Bootcamp has started, and I have a couple freelance opportunities I’m starting. I’m going to be living in AE & AI these next few weeks. I’m super excited and can’t wait to drink more coffee.

Warning, I am leaving on a little trip tomorrow. Posts will continue as normal, but I am anticipating a lot of babysitting and family time. This meaning less time to work on projects, so you might end up with more Animation Inspiration fillers than process updates. I just hope I still have time to get my character animations. I’m excited and will continue updates as normal!

Self Portrait – pt 1

I haven’t made a self-portrait in a long time. Since I’ve been doing a rebranding on my website and reworking my reel, I decided making a self-portrait would be a good idea. The twist that I’m trying to incorporate is turning it into a mograph introduction. I like the idea of introducing myself through my favorite medium. It’ll be fun to teach myself some character animation in the process and really tackle my inner self. So stay tuned for how this project takes shape.

Below is a first “sketch” at mocking an illustration of myself. I’m going to make it more cartoony I think, and really rework some of the shadows. I learned that my eyes are quite small today…Seriously, they get drowned by glasses. Anyways, I occupied most of my evening looking at my coin collection and trying to figure out how much my “rare” coins were worth, I didn’t really get a chance to dive into this illustration as much as wanted tonight. I also need to write myself a little artist statement or script for it. Like I said stay tuned to see how the animation develops. I’m excited.

I realized that I forgot to stick to the new schedule of Youtube on Tuesday. Oops. I’ll have to do it Wednesday or Thursday this week since I forgot to edit the footage. I pile too many things on my plate these days. Need to wind down and just pick the important stuff.

I had a few ideas for today, but I ended up just creating. Basically doodling in Illustrator. Not sure what it is, but it’s something interesting. It’s clearly an alien ship or a god floating. Some kind of treasure? It’s floating, and damn it looks tribal like…and what world is this? I love making doodles like this and trying to see what can come out of them.

Happy creating friends.
