Both girls continued their struggle inside the strange room. Tomkin’s glasses didn’t do much to help as she tried to figure her way out of the room. She spotted something strange off to the side as she wandered around. It was a tiny black box. Tomkin walked over to it, tripping several times as her depth perception was interrupted by the strobe lights.
Mylard struggled the breath had been knocked out of her when Tomkin had fallen on top. She rolled over to her side trying to breathe and figure out how to navigate her overwhelmed senses. The stench was getting to her and she wanted to hurl. Tomkin looked like she was ignoring the smell as she walked away. Mylard pulled herself together and stood up. A little woozy but she kept her balance.
Back in front of the screens, Valrose was excitingly narrating the girls, “Look at that, I think Tomkin might be finding her way of this maze sooner than Mylard if she gets that box open. But Mylard is smart so who knows? Who are you rooting for? Remember all cash bets close the moment these girls get out of the room. If my estimations are right, and they usually are, I’m gonna say these two will figure their way out in about 10 minutes! So get your bets in!” he reminded the crowd watching the show. His eyebrows did the shuffle they were famous for.
Tomkin reached out touching the box. The moment she did all the sirens and lights abruptly turned off. They were in pitch darkness with the awful stench.
“What. Did. You. Do?” Mylard asked.
“Uhhh…I––AHHH!” Tomkin screamed as something grabbed her leg and pulled down. She found herself trying to fumble at her laser gun and shoot it but just as it had touched her leg it was gone, “WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUU–––”
Mylard turned abruptly toward the sound of Tomkin’s screams but as she did something tugged at her right arm causing her to trip and fall. The surface of the ground had changed. It felt like cold dirt now instead of the flat hard room. She twisted around trying to look but the darkness only consumed her.
I drew a dinosaur. Mind you this is relevant for a job application…well partially relevant. I suppose I don’t actually need to be drawing it…but I want to. This is just a sketch, I got carried away with the drawing. Plan to simplify down the dinosaur into some shapes I can animate and do some more research on possible movements. For now enjoy this doodle. I will have a different version of it tomorrow or a different type of dino. Depends on time.
…I was lazy today. Had all day to write that blog post and post it…but youtube videos are just so distractingly fun. Not a productive day. Most of today has been procrastination…hmmm…need to get work done tomorrow as a result!
On the flip side, I did go see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them. Full dress up while falling in love with Newt Scamander and Queenie. All the characters were amazing, especially the animals. Oh my godddddsssss…I want all those animals. Also want a couple short spinoffs of some parts. I’m not going to do any spoilers here, but if you did see it dm me!!!!! I need people to talk with!
In light of being lazy I hunted down some creature themed animation inspiration..and just realized this is my 100th Animation Inspiration post. -celebration-
‘Allo fam. Was hoping to have my Startup Weekend stuff done today, but I’m still finishing up a lettering post for it. Started it a little late in the day, but if I concentrate and focus all day tomorrow it’ll be up as well as have progress on other projects. Just need to put up blockers of social media and I’ll be fine.
Here’s inspiration again…I really need get more work done.
Love this piece! It’s one of the reasons I love animation. Changing the rules of the world. Absurd moments that can only be created through animation.
SILENCE (extrait) | By Emma Carré
Excellent piece with some interesting sound design. It’s got a good narrative and design. I admire the edits and movement of items like the car as well as character. The illustrations are great with fun line work. Makes me want to edit some of the ideas I had early on this year.
Pardon me for the lateness tonight, I decided to watch the Rio Closing Olympic Ceremonies with my mother. I hadn’t had a chance prior to this…although I still never saw the Opening Ceremonies for that matter. Absolutely beautiful designs and costumes. Had fun watching.
I am planning for one more day before I finalize a project for the Title Credits Contest. I’m debating another idea of using the Broad City credits and replacing it with NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). It’d be fun. If I can’t decide on a title credit to mimic I might do that instead. I’m struggling because I have existing ideas for these book stories, and can’t seem to find title credits that feel similar creatively…or at least possible for my timeframe, skill level, and equipment. Additionally I’m tempted to wait until I finish reading the books I’ve been working on this past week. Just so I have more material to work with.
I did come to another idea for the titles…but I’m reluctant just because it’d be a huge pivot. It’d be turning my selfi animation into title credits… It seems perfect, but I’m feeling a little guilt in letting go of all the existing work. I don’t know…I almost want to make two different animations now. The one I’ve been working on and then a title sequence… The question is if I want to enter that into the contest? or just make my own entirely? If anyone has any thoughts on this let me know…
I put the Broad City credits below so you can see the fun energetic feeling they have. If I take that route it’d be easy to recreate for NaNoWriMo. It also adheres to the creative kooky brand NaNo writes in. So lots of potential. Also promotion for my favorite nonprofit. If you have time I also recommend reading through the title process on Art of the Title. It’s interesting to see how the ideas come about and how they transform.
Update to the previous post on the recreate a title sequence contest. For the title sequence I’m going to focus on the book choice since that will determine the mood. From there I can try to find a 2D sequence that I can mimic which fits that same mood. I probably should have done that earlier today, but instead I went down the rabbit hole that is Art of the Title. Too many title sequences in my head now.
Bootcamp is also done. I didn’t quite finish the character throwing the ball like I wanted to today. Combination of lack of willpower and complicated tweening process turned into me getting only partially through the tween. Really love keyframes, really hate tweens. Character Animation is hard. It sounds stupid to say that, but it’s just hard. Seriously even though I’m not finished with the course (I can still complete the rest of the lessons just no more critique time) I’ve learned so much! It’s crazy seeing how much School of Motion has kicked my ass and changed my animation skills. I’ll try to have an updated reel for you guys to see soon. Just taking my time trying to really learn that art of animation first. Love you SoM. ❤
Since I haven’t progressed far on the title sequence contest, nor finished all the bootcamp stuff I’m throwing up some inspiration. Depending on how crazy my weekend is I might have another update for these projects, but I’m trying to spend some time reading too. I haven’t gotten too far in my Bout of Books goals. Just want to finish at least one book by Sunday. Which is doable if I actually sit down to read.
I love Animography! They always have fun fonts to watch animate. This one is great because the promotion has such a strong story to it. Beautiful transitions and sound design. If you don’t know about Animography, they create animated typefaces which you can purchase and use. I recommend checking them out even if you can’t buy, because they’re super fun and great for inspiration! There are a couple free types you can download. Love this!
Lovely transitions throughout the entire piece. Leaves a great feeling and has great movement for the eye. The animators do a wonderful job with helping the eye follow lines and focus on key elements. Great design work and a pleasure to watch!
Love this. I’ve been watching Olympic athletes and wanting to make some gifs. Have yet to find enough time in the day to make all the projects. Soon. This animation is simple, well as simple as animating a gymnast can be, and pleasant to watch. Great drawings and sound design.
Drew another backpack sketch while watching Syd Weiler’sTwitch stream today. I like going on there to watch other people create. It’s inspiring and motivating. The problem is that my computer overheats if I watch a stream and try to animate at the same time. It’s fun to sketch, but I would prefer animating at the same time. Oh well, as long as I’m creating something.
Also sharing this awesome website about some of the Olympic athletes. I like the incorporation of motion graphics and video as it explains how each of the athletes move. If you have time I recommend going through each of the featured people. It’s very interesting. Love the interactivity of the site. I’m enjoying the trend of using videos as the site background.
