Mylard stared around at the spaceship’s control center. Tomkin found herself floating upward a moment later. The girls made eye contact, nodded and began looking for the box again.

Valrose was narrating as the two searched. “Looks like they’ve discovered that the box transforms their surroundings! I’m excited to see who’s going to win though! What they don’t know is that there’s always something dangerous lurking in each of these worlds! The more times they go through the spaces the more dangerous the threats are! Now, of course, the question is how do these girls get out of this? We’ll have to find out!”

Mylard spotted something that looked like the box for a moment but upon floating closer realized it was a little portable screen. She grabbed it and turned it on. The screen flickered to life showing a security camera of the spaceship. She swiped through the screen seeing herself and Tomkin floating and a large figure in the corner–wait–she looked up just as the figure attacked her.

Mylard found herself thrown against the controls, sparks flying as she hit them. Tomkin startled saw a dark figure she couldn’t quite piece together what it was, but it came at her. She propelled herself away and into a hallway. Her heart hammering as she aimed to get away. Just as she left the room a loud alarm sounded.

WARNING. OXYGEN SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN TURNED OFF. PLEASE TURN ON MANUALLY FROM THE CONTROL CENTER OR THE ENGINE ROOM. THERE IS 98% OXYGEN REMAINING. WARNING… the message repeated.

Tomkin froze as she heard it and found herself floating a little far to the left, she hit the metal of the spaceship hard. She winced and looked up. The figure was still coming at her. It moved fluidly and terrifyingly for her as if about to consume her whole.

Mylard floated aimlessly for a few moments in shock as the stinging burns from hitting the controls pained her. She jolted suddenly as she remembered what was going on. She twisted around reminding herself that she should look for the box.

Day 12 & 13 of 365

So I did start writing the other night but I literally fell asleep on my keyboard. When I check back I apparently only made it through one sentence. Did not realize I was that tired while writing. So we’re gonna just count this long post for both.

The clip faded off of Valrose and Mylard into the pre-game Valrose and Tomkin. Tomkin smiled, relaxed with a cup of tea in her hand. Valrose leaned forward.

“Tomkin, your mother, and grandmother were both champions of this game, how does it feel to be the third generation?” he asked. Tomkin suppressed the urge to punch him.

“Well, it’s an honor. I wouldn’t be here without them. Thanks, Mom! Thanks, Grandma,” she said waving to the camera with her eyes gleaming. She smiled.

“Do you feel that gives you an advantage at all?”

“Not really. After all, I still have to do all the hard work, and live up to the expectations,” she said with a coy smile. “The only advantage I have is the stories of being in the game.”

Valrose laughed his fake laugh, “Fair enough Tomkin. It’s a pleasure getting to know you. Now any advice you have for the contestants who want to enter next year?”

“Just do it. You’ll figure it out once you find out you’re in,” she said.

“Thanks,” Valrose said.

The screen flashed back to the present Valrose in his flashy suit and commentary of the ongoing game. The two girls were still in the maze with their stun guns. Tomkin was running from something. Her eyes and expression of fear paired with her frequent glances over the shoulder. She slipped and fell hard. Valrose was quick to tell the crowd about the nasty fall. Tomkin winced pulling herself up quickly despite the bit of blood dripping from her elbows and chin. She spun around looking for her stun gun. It was a few feet away from her, but just as she began toward it. A large panther jumped out.

Tomkin held herself prepared to dart into the bushes. The panther eyed at her his tail flicking in anger. She found her eyes darting at the stun gun which was now between them and the large cat. Her thoughts raced. And then she moved. A split-second later claws dug into her back as she grasped at the gun. The screams were loud and she somehow found her fingers around it. She threw her shoulder over as the panther ripped at her back and then shot. The stun gun hit the panther in the shoulder. It yowled angrily but released and went down.

Tomkin found herself bleeding but still in the game. She pulled herself up, wary of the unconscious beast and limped into the maze.

Day 5 of 365

This story is still winding its way through my head. Will wrap this soon with a new story.

Verona smiled raising the alien gun slightly. Mr. Sandburg tensed.

“Maybe I should just turn you lot in,” Verona said. He looked over the group. “Who’s that?” he asked nodding to Ellis.

“None of your–” Diana started.

Mr. Sandburg shushed her. Verona rocked back on his heels. “I want him. I think he’s good bait. Or maybe I should take one of you. I mean, do you think the Empire is over how you traitors backstabbed them?”

“Like you’re any better,” Marilyn interjected. “If memory serves me, you’re stuck here on this planet in exile just like the rest of us. What was it like getting exiled for falling in love with the prince?”

“That’s a petty insult even for you,” Verona replied. “At least my love was pure intentions. You lot thought it’d be smart to rob from the Empire.”

Day 4 of 365

Made some good plotting points yesterday, threw half of them out the window for random inspiration. Still following this story.

Part Two
Part Three

There was a large man standing at the back door holding an alien weapon. The Sandburg aliens tensed up and Mr. Sandburg lifted the gun he held. The man had a large scar on his face and several tattoos that were hard to distinguish on his arms.

Marilyn was the first to speak. “Verona. You found us.”

Verona smirked. “Been a long time coming. What do you go by these days? I haven’t seen you lot since you were rats running.”

“These bodies are Sandburgs,” Fell responded. He was leaning forward in his chair watching Verona. The air was full of a nervous energy.

“You gonna kill us?” Diana snapped. Her eyes darted around the room at the gun Mr. Sandburg had pointing at Verona and alien weapon in his hand.

“Depends. Got anything redeemable? I heard a ship is gonna touch down in the next hour or so. Its drop point isn’t far from here. I wanna trade for some freedom,” he said.

Ellis tried to follow the conversation but found himself in silence and in confusion. He wanted to ask so many questions but the hostility made him feel nervous.

“Even if we had something we wouldn’t give it to you,” Mr. Sandburg said. He wanted to kill Verona, but Marilyn kept giving him looks.

Day 3 of 365 Stories

Will try to wrap this story up in the next couple days. I took some time to plot out the story so that it makes sense. I’m excited to keep working on these shorts and hope that you’re still working on your New Year’s Resolutions!

~Kendall

Part One
Part Two

Ellis looked back and forth between the aliens, unsure of how his words would go over. He expected them to reject the premise, but that left them with only the option of killing him. Unless there was another option that came about Ellis expected the Sandburgs to murder him. Although he wasn’t quite sure of the reasons, Ellis knew something was horribly wrong with the family standing around him.

Diana sighed heavily and looked at Mrs. Sandburg who was standing with her arms folded near the kitchen. She was battling the emotions of her recently killed host. The process of assimilating was always interesting. A host had to die to let the alien in, but once in they seem to awaken inside without any control over their body. They experienced everything but someone else was in control. It was a horrifying feeling for their hosts, but the aliens needed to survive.

Mr. Sandburg abruptly left the conversation. Marilyn and Preston started to speak to him as he disappeared. He ignored them as he went to the part of the house his host only knew of. It was a small closet with a hidden shelving unit. Inside Mr. Sandburg removed a shotgun and its bullets. He returned holding it.

Marily and Preston had been heavily discussing ways to deal with Ellis who sat with his eyes rolling. They cut off seeing what their leader held.

“Is that…Where did you get that?” Mrs. Sandburg asked. Her eyes were glazed over and focused on the gun. “Mrs. Sandburg hates having guns in this house! They’re a vile and horrible thing to have around children.”

“We’re all grown up,” Fell snapped. “The youngest is even too old to be here.” Mrs. Sandburg gave him a look and he folded his arms, pouting.

The was a loud crack that made all the aliens and Ellis jump. It sounded like lightning hitting the house. Mr. Sandburg scanned the house trying to figure out was happening. He didn’t need to because the back door slid open. They turned seeing a tall dark figure.

Hi.

Hi friends.

It’s been a long time. Well, life is crazy and I just haven’t sat down to write you all like I did last year and for the beginning of this year. So, with only two months left of 2017 and a whole lot of crazy going on, I felt I should bring this back. Just a general life update and a new place to document again.

So, I’ve been working for VaynerMedia for the last few months. It’s been amazing and very chaotic with lots of moving to New York City and within the city, meetups, making new friends, parties, and so much more. I haven’t documented the last few months of my life as well as I like for posting here so if you’ll bear with me. I plan on making a couple projects to explain those months and digging through my phone photos. Until then, just wanted to pop in and say stuff is coming.

Currently, I have a lot of writing to do since it’s National Novel Writing Month. I’m creating a lot of fun content over on my Instagram which I recommend going over to if you want to keep better tabs on everything I’ve been creating as well as my day-to-day.

Basically, I’m writing again. I’m debating if I want to do a daily journalling like I did in 2016, starting on Jan 1st. I think it’ll be good for keeping track of all of the amazing things I’ve been creating and doing and will continue doing. I get busy and there is only so much time in a day, so I don’t want to over-commit myself to a daily blog if I don’t have the time or energy to do so. But anyways, I’m rambling.

So Hi. How are you? Anyone still read this strange and weird journal I crafted about my projects? Excited to write again friends.

Animation Inspiration 96

NaNoWriMo started. I nixed the vlog idea because I don’t need to have another task on my to-do list right now. Maybe next year. Also behind already. Spent a large portion of today reworking an ‘about me’ and writing blurbs on my website. It’s going well, but I found myself distracted by everything sometime around 3 pm. It’s been a bumpy ride since then. Goals are to get on track with wordcount tomorrow and launch my new site design.

It’s weird not having an inktober project to work on. I’m tempted to continue it but with animations. I’ve added it to a list of personal projects I want to pursue.

Goal is to head to bed in a bit. Been awhile since I’ve posted some inspiration. I’ve been missing it.

Loge the transitions and various loops. Also great color scheme.

These animations are great examples of editorial work. For mochat tonight’s discussion was about editorial motion design. It was a really interesting talk and I learned a lot about the process for that area of the industry. Every time I participate I learn something new. I swear Mochat is responsible for 75% of my motion graphics education. Great fun discussion and lots of learning. Might use this as a bouncing off point for other great projects.

One more day of Inktober!

Can’t believe there’s only one more day of Inktober left! Gonna have to pick a fun one for ‘Friend’ tomorrow. It’s been a quick and crazy month. I feel like I just started the challenge yesterday. Not as long as my 365 Days of Lettering, but still a large project. I love these types of habit based challenges.

Speaking of habit based challenges, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) begins Tuesday! I’m spending Monday gearing up for writing. Will be updating you on the progress. Still on the fence about vlogging the process. If I decide to do so look for an announcement video tomorrow. Updates will be on here and Twitter regardless of vlogging. I’m determined to win this year and have supplementary drawings or animations to post. Very excited!

Gonna go get to bed so I can get some important tasks out of the way tomorrow!

Updates & an Octopus Escape

Working on redoing my website. It’s coming along nicely, but as usual taking a bit of time. I’m aiming for an official relaunch by the end of this week. Hopefully sooner, but I don’t want to get my hopes up since I have other projects and errands to run during these next few days.  Plus I want to take my time to make it a good site. I rushed the last redesign, so making sure this one is good. Along with the

Along with the update I want to wrap up two animations by the end of next week. Those being the Selfi (you remember that one, right? No? linky) and my NaNoWriMo Seeking Writer. If I somehow accomplish these two I am also going to be doing a little NaNo vlog. That one doesn’t need as much editing and animating so hoping I can accomplish that in a single morning. I just know I need to finish these guys. Been caught up in so many different directions I lost a bit of sight on the projects I’ve started. I just want to finish these two videos and my website!

Glad that I still have this writing habit going. Thank you to anyone that has read one post or all of them! I appreciate that you came to visit! Thanks for reading! ❤

NaNo Seeking Writer | WIP

I spent 8+ hours animating today, and about 8+ hours yesterday. I didn’t make it too far last night before I crashed despite a zillion cups of coffee. At least it reinforced my love for motion design. There are not many other project types that keep my attention that long, aside from lettering. It was nice animating all day.

Aside from tons of animation, I drank a lot of coffee. I do plan to keep animating the title sequence. Due to time constrictions, I pulled out some of the boards. It got overwhelming animating every square and trying to figure out the shape layers. So many null objects. So many. It took me a couple hours to get in the groove. I realize I should have begun animating last week, but I just wanted to keep designing!

This project is so much fun and I’m happy with the current result, although I want a complete version of it still. For that portfolio! I didn’t even get a chance to tinker with the sound design! For future projects, I’ll make sure to start animating sooner.

I’ll continue working on it, but here’s the current state of the animation. Feel free to give a critique since it’s still a work in progress!
