Animation Inspiration 109

Apparently, the painkillers I have for my hip make me super singsongy….because for the last half hour I’ve been narrating myself through singing. It’s super weird, but also doesn’t feel out of the ordinary because of pills.

I drew a shadow study since I’ve been trying to draw people all day and it’s not been working out. I figured I need some shadow practice and a few reference photos. This was helpful in jogging my memory from drawing class freshman year. I haven’t really done many people drawings since then so I’m not surprised I’m having trouble. It happens when you don’t practice. Just do a billion drawings every day for practice.

In honor of needing to get to bed because I’m about to get sleepy here’s some inspiration from my favorite youtube channel, Kurzgesagt.

Dino Updates & Planets

Imamakeathing. Worked on a class for Skillshare today. I decided to make a class on how to create a planet in photoshop. More updates on that later since will have to film and edit the short video classes together. You can see a quick example of what I’m aiming for below. Just a very simple class to learn basics of photoshop blend modes, brushes, masks, and filters.

I originally had the plan to do some lettering, but I didn’t feel comfortable teaching it because most lettering skills I’ve learned come from Skillshare. No need to over saturate the market when I can direct people to the classes I learned from. Plus, I feel this style is underrated and super easy to teach. I have a lot of photoshop knowledge so I want to teach what I know and understand. I’ve been using photoshop since my middle school days so it’ll be nice to teach some of the methods I’ve learned.

On another note, I have a silly animated dinosaur which I’m still debating is the right type of animation for the application I’m applying for. I don’t want to push the project longer than tomorrow so just whipping up quick animations styles. I love the tribal look but am iffy on the ‘rawr’ part. I don’t think I have enough time to test walk cycles out, but it’d be a fun challenge for the future. Colors still being picked and still deciding how to accurately put into the application without disrupting the flow. It’s relevant but I have to make sure the hierarchy is the right balance of animation skills and good responses for questions.

Excited for what tomorrow brings! I have to get some overdue lettering done for a friend, some reading, get the rebrand finalized, and finish a job application…all while still hanging with the fam. If it gets too hectic the reading might get thrown to the last moment. Hope not, I have a ton of library books I want to finish before they get returned! Night friends! Hope your days are productive!

Title Sequence | WIP resume

Title sequence updates again! Most of my difficulties have lay within my lack of boards for the actual titles. Last week I had planned to just animate with shape layers well into the night, but after working these today I realize I should have had them done way earlier. Just thankful that the contest deadline got extended. I’m starting to wonder if I’d been able to finish at all. I think I would have done something, maybe not a great animation, but I would have finished. So thankful I have time to really hone and finesse this.

Below are the boards with text which is what I felt has been missing the last couple days. Animation resumes tomorrow. I plan on getting a better grasp of the timing and chronological order I want. Also I want to work on sound design since I have more time. Excited to get back into the groove of animating this!

Art Updates | Concepting

I obviously still have a ton of work to do for the concepting stage of the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) title credits, but I did start some illustrator sketches for the Man Seeking Woman style. You can see a few early concepts I have. I’m a little frustrated that I haven’t been able to get myself to work on these more. It’s not that I’m not excited, but I’ve been a bit out of sync working wise. I spent most of today cleaning my room since it’s been gathering cobwebs and dust.

You know what I think it is? I think it’s the fact that I haven’t properly exercised in a week. I’ve been slacking. Will have to remedy that tomorrow and see if it helps.

Lettering update, I will be posting that to IG and twitter tomorrow. Maybe an early post here just so that you guys can see. I spent today outlining and sketching the letterforms again. Still tweaking, but will have it up on the social media soon!

I got distracted and worked on this piece while watching the Adobe Twitch channel. They were working on Fantasy Environments so I sketched this. A bit off topic from my original art projects, but better than no art at all!

Learning to be Stigma Free

Today I leave you with some videos on the topic of mental health. ‘Cause I’m working on being stigma free. I have not been diagnosed with a mental disorder, but I frequently identify with people that have mental illnesses. I am also starting my own journey in wellness. I recently took the difficult step in just asking for some help because I’ve been really struggling recently. Not easy to do with all the stigma surrounding mental health. Thankfully I have really supportive family and friends. It was a nice relief to finally ask, and stop avoiding it. Also, I’ve decided if I’m going to make my upcoming animation surrounding the idea of mental health I need to practice what I preach. If you couldn’t tell my animation topic is on mental health. I am slowly learning to be stigma free, and it’s proving very difficult to want to post this update, but I’m going to force myself. Just got to put it out there and try to not worry about it.

I’ve been watching a ton of Kati Morton videos which is part of the reason why I decided it was time to ask for help. She’s extremely encouraging and has a ton of great resources if you’re like me and struggle with even wanting to open up about it, or just want to learn more about mental health topics. I personally have realized that I deal with a lot of my problems through art, but that I also need support from other resources. She has a great community online of which has encouraged me to take on this topic.

Now, I leave you with some videos that have reminded me that I am only human.
